Search engine rank refers to the position of your website in the various search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc. when someone searches for some keyword term contained in the pages of your site, the search engines display various results.
The position of your site among these results is known as it’s search engine rank. The higher the search engine rank of a site,the higher traffic it is likely to get. The object is to get into the first page or top ten of the results.

At the end of the articles there should be a link to your website. These high ranking pages are regularly indexed by the search engines and as a result,the link to your website will also get indexed.
Another method is to get reciprocal links from high ranking sites which are relevant to the subject of your site.
You have to search for relevant sites having a high PR and ask the webmasters for a reciprocal link.
